1947 and 2007

Probably the worst flood to hit Upton occurred in 1947 when the deep snow of one of the hardest winters for years melted very quickly. So severe was the flood that army had to brought in to supply the town with food and to help rescue the many trapped animals.

This picture shows the flooding in the New Street, where many households and businesses were affected.

For the first time in living memory a flood struck in summer 2007 and in parts to higher levels than 1947. On this occasion despite the fact there were temporary flood barriers stored at Kidderminster, so severe and sudden was the rise of the river that there was no time to get the barriers in place. The flood severely damaged all the riverside pubs and many houses on the waterside and on New Street.
