Cholera
In 1832 Cholera struck the crowded alleys of Upton starting in Dunn’s Lane. So great was the epidemic that a special burial ground was established outside the town’s boundary. Fear stalked the town and the traditional congregations of the watermen and townsfolk on the bridge no longer took place.
The plaque is in Dunn’s Lane, close to the Heritage Centre.
A walk to the Cholera Burial Ground is included in the Upton Short Walks Leaflet (external link)
